eDNA Water Analysis

SMJ has been responsible for eDNA analyses of tank water in the group where initial feeding takes place. The studies were conducted at Bakkafrost’s RAS facilities in Norðtoftir and Viðareiði weekly for 12 weeks (one cycle). By examining the microbiology in the samples over an extended period and linking these data to the prevailing production conditions, insight is gained into the interaction between microbiology and fish welfare. A more thorough understanding of these conditions is key to ensuring improvements in salmon production:

• Interdisciplinary analysis of production conditions, eDNA results, growth, and mortality.
